Female Interaction benchmarks Smartphone experience for Nokia

Nokia, 2011

Womenomics - the emerging influence of female consumers - has an impact on most industries. Thus the development toolbox emerging from design-people's 3 year design-research project "Female Interaction" is highly requested.

Nokia was one of the first to bring the analysis tools into play in order to benchmark its Smartphone user experience in a female perspective - with considerable success and valuable insights.

”We asked design-people to carry out a female interaction analysis on the Nokia N8 smartphone applications.

The analysis methods provided us with new insights and inspired us to intensify the effort of improving our interaction design and female user experience".

Sleak audio design – Jamo

Innovative consumer product shaping

How to design a classic satellite speaker to fit into the modern living environment as companion to flat screen TV’s?
- And how to make it attractive for the female part of the world? Our product design team converted these challenges into a both discreet but still unique speaker design for Jamo. The overall shape is an evolution of Jamo’s design language which makes a clear overall form statement while having refined soft form details when you get closer and touch the product. The signature element is a characteristic grill pattern that gives the product identity and style.

Woman Acceptance Factor radio

Jamo 2009

The goal for this design study was to revitalize the concept of a kitchen radio by making a significant

design statement. Basic radio functions and a powerful clear sound are combined with a unique touch interface and an eye catching slim-line design. The touch scroll bar used for adjusting the sound volume gives a subtle and classy interaction experience.

High end materials and surfaces together with the simple and sophisticated way of operating the radio
makes this radio study especially attractive for the female target group. All together a stunning example
of how well known products can be revitalized by consistent and innovative design thinking.

Blind touch

Linak 2009

User studies of reference products revealed a need for a new desk panel with a better tactile feedback.

Thus the new Linak desk panel range is designed with buttons that differ in shape and give the user an
intuitive “blind” operation of the elevation desk. In addition, the new desk panels can be mounted in
different angles - thus making it fit a wide range of different table top shapes. A stylish and ergonomic

Sonic Interaction Design

Polycom 2007

The user research carried out on Polycom’s cordless phones showed a need for better interaction sounds as e.g. “battery low”, “out of reach” and the ringing tones. Thus we created a new range of interaction sounds, which improves the overall user experience of the phones.

Our award winning research program on Sonic Interaction Design forms the basis for our work proces in this field. Part of it is to define the specific role and qualities of each signal sound before going into design mode.
Multimedia simulation of sounds was applied for user tests before the succesful launch.
