design-people benchmarks smartphone experience

Nokia

Womenomics - the emerging influence of female consumers - has an impact on most industries. Thus the development toolbox emerging from design-people's 3 year design-research project "Female Interaction" is highly requested. Nokia was one of the first to bring the analysis tools into play in order to benchmark its Smartphone user experience in a female perspective - with considerable success and valuable insights.

”We asked design-people to carry out a female interaction analysis on the Nokia N8 smartphone applications. The analysis methods provided us with new insights and inspired us to intensify the effort of improving our interaction design and female user experience".

Female Interaction research

Research project 2009-2011

Making advanced electronic products attractive and smooth to operate for female users opens a huge business potential. Why? - woman represent a growing market share for advanced products.

The 4,7 million kroners research project “female interaction design” initated by design-people brings together scientists, designers, development- and market specialists. In a 2,5 years collaboration new userdriven development methods and tools will be developed and tested - focusing on the demands and desires of female users. The project is approved and co-financed by the danish Enterprise and construction Authority.

Uncovering new user benefits in hearing aids

Oticon

How to explore new potential user benefits for hearing aid users and transform them into innovative product concepts? This challenge was addressed in a joint venture between Oticon’s design team and design-people. User field studies in USA and Denmark created a solid basis for framing user profiles and user needs. Based on multi disciplinary ideation workshops, new product and service concepts were designed, user tested and matured into refined models and use scenarios. These were used to make strategic decisions about future product portfolio and system design.

Usability guidelines based on ethnographic studies

Oticon

Oticon’s most advanced hearing aid Epoq includes a streamer that connects to the users mobile phone. design-people’s interaction design analysis of this product led to usability guidelines for future Oticon products.

The analysis combined ethnographic studies of hearing aid users with workshops on user profiling and feature scenarios.

Expert knowledge for a new user experience strategy

Radiometer

During 2 intensive days, design-people’s team of interaction experts and Radiometers own R&D team developed the foundation for Radiometers new user experience strategy.

Simplicity and reliability through design

DEIF

design-people has a long-lasting collaboration with DEIF, leading manufacturer of power control solutions and marine controls. As these products are often used in rugged environments and stressful situations, intuitive user interaction is essential.

The design line design-people has established for DEIF covers both interaction and product design. User research has been a valuable tool to frame and prioritise user needs so that the interaction design meets the demands of basic users as well as installers and service technicians.

As reliability is extremely important for these devices, a robust, professional and long lasting design expression was implemented in the family of control and indicator products designed throughout the last ten years.

Fresh air with invisible design

Airmaster

In 2003, Airmaster teamed up with design-people to create a product line based on innovative, energy efficient ventilation concepts. The product family spans over a range of ventilation fittings and operation panels. The products provide clean and fresh air where it is needed - in designs that are clean and unobtrusive, with a limited visual impact on architecture and interior. Although the design is discreet and long lasting it has a strong design DNA, that helps Airmaster to stand out in the market.

The latest addition to the Airmaster product family is the AM 1200. Here, we came up with an innovative concept for a ventilation system specifically designed to meet new standards for classroom ventilation. Not only does the new system integrate well in classrooms due to a customizable modular design – it also offers an option for noise cancelling surface materials that improve classroom acoustics. A valuable benefit for the learning environment!
